Videotapes to digital
Got a box of old home videos and nothing to play them on? I'll put them on a DVD, a flash drive or a download link, so you can watch them on your TV, phone or computer and share them with family.
$17 per tape
One price per tape, whichever way you want it: DVD, flash drive or download link. Bring your own flash drive or I can supply one at cost. Snapped or chewed tapes that need repair first, I'll quote before I touch them.
What I can transfer
- VHS
- VHS-C (the small camcorder VHS tapes)
- Camcorder tapes like Hi8, Video8, Digital8 and MiniDV: ask me first and I'll tell you if I can do yours.
- Cassette tapes and records: ask me. I can put audio onto files or a CD too.
Three ways to get your videos
| Option | Good for |
|---|---|
| Tape to DVD | Watching on the TV with a DVD player, or giving copies to grandparents. Plays like any DVD. |
| Tape to flash drive | Keeping the files yourself. Regular MP4 video files that play on almost any computer, TV or phone. Bring your own drive or I can supply one. |
| Tape to Google Drive download | Sharing with family who live far away. You get a private link to download the videos. The link stays up for 30 days, then I delete my copy. |
You can pick more than one, like a DVD for Grandma and a download link for everyone else.
How it works
Tell me how many tapes and what kind, and how you want them. You drop them off, I play each one on good equipment I keep running myself and record it to digital files, and you get your tapes back with the files. Tapes play in real time, so a two-hour tape takes two hours to transfer. I'll tell you the total and when it'll be done before I start.
Old or damaged tapes
Tapes that snapped, got chewed up by a VCR or sat in a damp basement can often still be saved. I'll look at each one first and tell you what I can do before I put it in a machine.
Your videos stay private
I don't share or post anything. I delete my copy once you have your files, or after 30 days for download links.
Home videos only
I transfer your own recordings: family videos, weddings, sports, old TV you taped yourself. Not store-bought movies.
Tell me what's broken
Send me what it is and what it's doing. A photo helps. I'll get back to you, usually the same day, with whether I can fix it and what it'll cost. If I can't fix it, you don't pay for the repair.
